Bond’s Walk-Off Homer Seals Win in the 11th

QUINCY — Jimmy Koza’s inside-the-park home run allowed the Quincy Doggy Paddlers to tie Wednesday night’s Prospect League game in the bottom of the 10th inning, and Krew Bond’s home run down the left-field line in the bottom of the 11th wrapped up a 13-11 victory that took nearly four hours to play.
Bond’s blast off the third pitch he saw from reliever Connor Ziman drove in ghost runner Brady Kindhart and wrapped up a game that featured 24 runs, 21 hits, 13 walks, five wild pitches and two hit batters.
Alton took an 11-9 lead in the top of the 10th on a two-run single by Grant Shepherd. Koza’s home run in the bottom of the frame was aided when River Dragons center fielder Joe Connolly was handcuffed when the ball ricocheted off the wall, causing him to slip and fall on the warning track.
Caleb Clealand drove in two runs with a single in the top of the ninth to break a 6-6 tie, then scored on a wild pitch. The Doggy Paddlers responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Brady Kindhart drove in two runs on a double off the wall in center field, and Wandel Campana drove in the tying run when he was jammed on a pitch and hit a little popup over pitcher Austin McCabe’s head that Clealand, the shortstop, could only field on one bounce and hold on to.
Bond drove in three runs. Campana, Tommy Harrison and Jake Merda each had three hits as part of Quincy’s 17-hit attack.
Noah Wilder recorded four outs and didn’t give up a run to earn the victory in relief for the Doggy Paddlers.
