BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Quincy Doggy Paddlers used 14 hits and scored ten runs to overpower the Burlington Bees at Community Field on Tuesday night.
Quincy was able to answer back from a first-inning run by Burlington to the tune of a five-run top of the second. Brayden Roberts led off the frame with a hit-by-pitch then Brady Kindhart and Matthew Thompsen each singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, designated hitter Harry Oden came to the plate and lined a single to center to bring home Roberts and Kindhart.
The hit parade continued as Jimmy Koza laced a double to left field, scoring Thompsen. Shortstop Wandel Campana stepped up and hit a double of his own to drive in two more and give the Doggy Paddlers a 5-1 lead.
The Bees clawed back with a run in the third and three more in the fourth. Two of those three runs were unearned yet tied the game at 5 runs apiece.
Koza continued his solid night at the plate in the top of the sixth with an RBI single to score Oden and put Quincy back ahead, 6-5.
It was all Paddlers the rest of the way thanks to a big ninth inning. Quincy brought across four more runs thanks to a lead-off home run from Tommy Harrison, an infield single off the bat of Oden, and two bases loaded walks.
Oden, a Quincy native, finished his night going 4-5 with three runs batted in, two runs scored, and a double to lead the Paddlers offense. Leadoff man Jimmy Koza went 3-6 with two RBI’s. Brady Kindhart and Wandel Campana added two hits each.
On the mound, Cody Shaffer went five innings giving up two earned runs while Jared Marty was lights out in middle relief work. The lefty from Culver-Stockton surrendered just one hit in three innings of work.
Quincy will next set their sights on a matchup with the Alton River Dragons tomorrow night at QU Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
