Steelman Deals; Paddlers Top Alton in Seven Innings

ALTON, Ill. – Starting pitcher Hayden Steelman used just 84 pitches over seven innings to lead the Quincy Doggy Paddlers to a commanding 11-1 victory over the Alton River Dragons on Sunday evening.

The right hander from William Woods allowed just one run on four hits in Quincy’s most efficient outing from a starter this young season. Steelman tossed 55 strikes out of his 84 pitches thrown, and he surrendered just one walk. Alton’s lone run came on a fielder’s choice with runners on second and third in the first inning.

Not only did the Doggy Paddlers get production on the mound, the bats also showed up in a big way.

Chris Suchoski put the Paddlers ahead in the top of the fourth with a three-run double to right field. After a groundout, Jimmy Koza brought in Suchoski with a single up the middle.

With two outs, Brady Kindhart put the exclamation point on the rally with a deep shot to right field to give Quincy a 6-1 lead.

Catcher Brayden Roberts added a solo home run, his first of the summer, in the fifth to make it 7-1.

The Doggy Paddlers sealed the deal behind a bases loaded balk and back-to-back sacrifice flies off the bats of Jameson Johnson and Skylar Graham.

Quincy (2-4, 1-1) will be off on Monday before returning to QU Stadium on Tuesday (June 3) to host the Burlington Bees at 6:35 p.m. for Bark at the Park Night.
